If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you may have come across the word “frumpy” one or ten times. I’ve gotten myself into a post-natal rut of sorts, not quite fitting into all of my pre-pregnancy clothes yet. Again, I am grateful for leggings and my hubby’s clothes, but the motto Look Good, Feel Good keeps dancing around in my brain. How many times have you looked in your closet full of clothes and said, sighed, shouted, grumbled, “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!!!”
Angie and Andrea contacted me about being their guinea pig for their new closet remix blog series. What is a closet remix? I’ll tell you. A closet remix is a closet makeover with your own clothing. It’s all about working with what you HAVE. It’s a fresh pair or two of eyes looking at your closet and coming up with outfits you didn’t know existed. Wait… WHAT?!?! Can you say, perfect timing?!?! I am a FIRM believer that every.single.one of you reading this, especially all my lady friends out there, need to do this. It was such a positive and eye-opening experience.
The Process

Day #1 Angie met with me first. She brought over a cute little bundle for me to go through. It contained some style quizzes and a little info about detoxing your closet. My assignment was to read through the material and to take the style quizzes so that they could know my personal style, (good luck) and know my style needs. It was all pretty easy and straightforward. Angie took a quick peek through my closet as well. She also presented the option to me of allotting a small budget to her and Andrea to find and add some essential pieces to my closet.
Day #2 Andrea, Angie and I went through every piece of clothing in my closet. Does this fit? Does this look good on? Is this color flattering? Do you ever wear this? What is this? We had a box for donations, a box for my sister, and put all my maternity clothes away. We had tonnes of fun doing this. I was worried that maybe it would be a little awkward or embarrassing, but it wasn’t at all – even with three different personalities and styles in the room. There was one item in particular in my closet that I had never worn because of A) how exactly does one wear these…? B) where does one wear these? C) what does one wear these with?
This is when the high pony-tail craze was born. They put together an outfit for those pants, told me to put my hair up in a high-pony and add some red lipstick. Red lipstick? No problem! High-pony? Um… No. No thank you. Not for me. But alas, they insisted. So… I mean, I guess I can wear a high-pony now.
Day #3 Sometime, between day two and three, Angie and Andrea went shopping for me (and a little for themselves, too, because let’s be honest… who can resist?) Day three was outfit creating day! I lost count of how many outfits we created! They pulled items from my closet and matched them up with various items and had me try stuff on. Outfits that I had never thought to put together were put together using the same clothes I’ve always had. I opted to give the girls a little budget. A+A were super excited to show me what they scored for me from their little shopping excursion. What they got really complimented my closet. They added a little color (because that was lacking), a black cardigan (with pockets!) and a floral bomber jacket that I would have never chosen on my own. But, I am LOVING it! I have this shirt… it’s my favorite shirt. It’s my favorite shirt and I have only worn it MAYBE five times. Why? Good question. Mostly because I’ve only pictured wearing it a couple of ways, with a certain skirt and with my high-waisted black jeans (which currently don’t fit). Not to mention it’s a button-up that currently can’t quite button up very well with the “milk” situation. Following? Anyways, I was THRILLED when Angie and Andrea suggested a new way of wearing the said shirt!
My Experience
The process was great. I don’t think I can rave about this enough! It was easy, fun and I felt comfortable. It really was a lifting experience. Andrea and Angie made me feel like a rockstar. They made me feel beautiful and helped me to see that. As I said earlier, this came at such a perfect time for me. This past week I’ve put together a few additional outfits that we didn’t assemble as part of this project. That was really exciting to me, for me to be able to see my closet with new eyes as well. I have worn the high-pony out of my house TWICE! What? Yes. Sometimes you just have to trust your friends when they tell you something looks good. So ladies, grab a couple of your friends and have a girls night in! Remix your closets! I guarantee it’s worth it!
Andrea and Angie, thank you again, so stinkin’ much for all the fun and all the love.
Thanks for scrolling! I want to hear how YOUR closet remix goes!
