The Final Ride
Goodbyes. Why are they called good byes? Shoudn’t they be called badbyes? Or Sadbyes?
We had to say goodbye to Tornado this summer. Tornado was one of my parent’s horses. And was affectionately claimed by Eden. He’s been in the family as long as the girls can remember. He was the most perfect, gentle horse.
I remember clearly the first time Fay and Eden met Tornado… which is saying a lot with this brain of mine! 2013, the girls were 2 years old. The girls and I came home from the Caribbean for a visit. My parents weren’t home from a summer holiday yet so it was just us out on the farm. We ventured outside our first morning there, and it was love at first sight. Fay and Eden walked right under the fence towards the horses in their no-fear way. We brushed them and pet them and brought them apples and carrots. Heaven. When my parents came home, the girls rode for their first time.

Every summer since then, Fay and Eden have spent hours and hours out with the horses and their Nana.
I can’t look at these photos without crying.
How do you thank a horse? Tornado played such an incredible and memorable role in their childhood. We all loved him so much, and I know that he loved us too. Especially Eden.
